AboutIt all started when I was a young kid, just having fun skateboarding and waterskiing. When I was about 15 years old, the skurfer was invented and at the same time, I started snowboarding. As the years went on, the skurfer developed into wakeboarding and my vision was to imitate snowboarding on the water. When I got into my mid 20's, I was given the opportunity for a wakeboarding sponsorship, which lasted until my early 30's. At this time, wakeskating was in it's infancy and I was giving it a try here and there. Eventually, I saw the potential in it and it was all I wanted to do.
During those days, everybody seemed to be on a different type of wakeskate. From wood boards, to plastic, and all types of shapes, people were trying to see what was working the best. I had the opportunity to ride for a small label out of Florida that made wood boards. I really felt that wood boards gave you the feel of skateboarding on water and felt they were the future of wakeskating. After a few years, the label I was riding for got out of making wakeskates, and I moved back to California. In 2010, I began throwing around the idea of starting my own label. When I was first getting started, a buddy out of Florida was making my boards. He eventually didn't want to pursue it anymore, so he flew out to Cali and helped me get set up to make them myself. I have been making my wakeskates by hand for about 6 years and continue to pursue my own wakeskating everyday. I named my label Original Wakeskates because I feel you should pursue wakeskating with your own personal style. Be Original! Rich Facciano Owner |
